Foray

Collages don't have much photographic merit except for recording an event without adding a bunch of extras, so...
Here's a few pictures from the fungus foray that takes place every October organised by the Pembrokeshire Fungus Recording Group. It's an opportunity for novices to benefit from the knowledge of experts as they take a walk through the woods, all eyes scanning the ground, trees, logs. and banks. You have to get your eye 'in' before you start to notice things but there were some children with us who were quick of the mark at mushroom spotting - before they moved on to climbing trees.

The most interesting find was the fluted bird's nest fungus although the spore-containing 'eggs' had already been dislodged by raindrops (as nature intends.) We also found eyelash fungi , which I have blipped before, and some others but nothing of great rarity. That's not the point though, it's about sharing an interest and learning as you go. There's nothing pleasanter than being in the woods on a balmy autumn day.
