Culross
After being stuck indoors all day yesterday I was keen to go somewhere today. Having checked the Historic Environment Scotland website and booked tickets, we are members so I don’t normally, we headed over east to Aberdour Castle. Just as we arrived into the town at 10.10 I had a phone call to say they had decided to shut the castle and gardens due to the weather. We then decided to head over to RSPB Loch Leven but this idea was quickly abandoned due to flooding on the roads in that direction.
Next we headed back the way we came and headed for the pretty village of Culross. Culross Palace, National Trust for Scotland, was also unexpectedly closed today for weather reasons but thankfully Culross Abbey was open, see extra for some of the lovely stained glass.
Had a huge plate of fish and chips in the Red Lion pub then a walk along the waterfront looking over the Firth of Forth to Grangemouth Refinery. We had been on that side of the Firth last Sunday in beautiful weather, a big difference this week but at least the rain held off for our walk, a bit of exercise and some fresh air was very welcome.
