Diagnosis : Disintegrated

I plugged the sandwich toaster in today, and it didn't work.  The socket felt a bit odd, and the switch on it felt all floppy.  So I plugged it in elsewhere.

Later I noticed the clock on the oven was off.  The switch for the oven is on the same thingy as the socket that didn't work...

I bought a new switch/socket while we were out, and then started to undo the old one to replace it.  As the screws loosened, metal and plastic parts started to fall out of the wall!  It had totally disintegrated internally, so no wonder it didn't work.

I fitted the new switch and socket and everything worked perfectly.

Diagnosis & repair complete.
