butterfly birth

The cocoons are beginning to hatch today!!!!
unforunetly i missed the moment this first one emerged whilst i was in sainsburys doing my weekly shop. There are a couple of others that look imminent but we are out on a school trip to the woods tomorrow so im guessing we will still miss them emerging either tonight or tomorrow.

This little fella had not long hatched when i took this photo and he was sat drying out amongst the other cocoons. when he opens his wings he looks very similar to a red admiral, these are painted lady butterflies.
