Clumber Park

A day out to Clumber Park with Moira, friend from the camera club and from when we both used to volunteer at our local library.
Although autumn colours aren't in full swing yet, the park and the assorted buildings were looking wonderful.  More info about Clumber here:

I got engrossed in exploring the fabulous walled garden.  The main shot is from one end of the enormous glasshouse, where volunteers were arranging squashes of all kinds and colours.  The extra shows a glimpse of  the glasshouse in the distance, from the tree-lined avenue that leads to the walled garden. The warm brick walls have dozens of fruit trees trained against them: espaliers, fans and cordons. I had a close look at these, as our grand collection of 1 fan, 1 espalier and 1 cordon will all need some careful pruning and reshaping this year.
As we come to the end of a week of relentlessly distressing national and international news - apart from the glimmer of light offered by the result of the Rutherglen bye-election - this was a very soothing day.
