Middle Temple Hall

Having stayed up overnight I decided to knock off an errand and went back to Old Street to pick up a ring that is being resized at Wright & Teague. Maybe because today is a rail strike but Shoreditch was so quiet that it was a rather dreamy to walk the streets.

I arrived a bit early for my appointment (they don’t have a shop) so had a coffee in a cafe in the jumble of streets around there, Photo Book Cafe and had one of those pleasant, in my city but new, experiences.   Wandered back to the office which was empty and again rather nice. I mainly watched cuts and had a few zooms before racing to Middle Temple at 5.30 to meet George, Claire and Lucy to see a discussion on Twelfth Night between Emma Smith (I stan Emma Smith) and Nick Hytner in middle Temple hall where it was first performed.   I know!  Goosebumps!  I am reading ES’s book on the plays at the moment and she is riveting as a writer and also riveting as a speaker. It’s all part of a programme of events to mark the 450th anniversary of the publication of the First Folio and ES has written a book on that too so lots to learn.

We had supper in Chancery Lane and set off home quite late in the car, because no trains of course.  It took over three hours to get there as the A3 was closed at the interchange with M25 and there was a massive and indecipherable detour. Finally rolled into bed at 1am!
