The subleties of the colour blue!
Even the most unlikely of days can have something to offer......this surprised me in its simplicity!
And the blue took me back to my first year, as an innocent abroad , in Glasgow.
When, at 22 , I used to be an elegant chap with the world my oyster.
So here I was,in my sharp suit, outside the cinema on Renfield Street on a Saturday night awaiting the arrival of my very Glaswegian girlfriend .
A Saturday night after an" old firm" game!
When up lurches the bevvy merchant; scars on forehead nose and chin, and seeing me at a loose end promptly engages me in "Hey,Pal; hows it goin' an that!"
6" from my nose!
Despite his wildly flailing arms, spilling whisky from his tightly clasped bottle, felt there was no harm in passing the time in banter with him!
Innocent abroad that I was!
After several minutes of craic much of which was lost on me, he thumped me cheerily on the shoulder and with a parting sally ,lurched off down the street.
Shortly after Doreen(the bird!) arrived apologisng for her lateness.
"Not to worry, have been entertained by yon drunk"I said, and briefly explained!
" But he said an odd thing when he left .... you're all right pal, you've got the right tie!!"
She took one horrified look and said "Christ ,Brian......on a Saturday night!....see if you had worn a blue tie" !!!
