On the Edge

Another blip by the sea. This time in East Devon where the sea has been stained brown by the crumbling, red marl cliffs. Within a few yards of this spot a small fleet of in-shore fishing boats once went out to to catch fish in Lyme Bay, and in the Summer, to take people for a "trip around the bay" or on a fishing trip to catch mackerel. It is also where a paddle steamer was wrecked and where a hovercraft carrying Jeremy Thorpe, who was once leader of the Liberal Party, was grounded during his ill-fated election campaign tour.
