Nightrider 100k
Today I walked into town to meet em. I needed to get spare bike lights for tonight.
Em had not good news her dad has Parkinson's.
Tonight is London nightrider 100k. That's 65 miles to us Brits.
We started off at 11pm from Alexandra palace. Our route took in sights of (in no particular order) hampstead Heath, Trafalgar Square, Westminster, tower bridge, London eye, chrystal palace London bridge, Greenwich park, the city, west end, Lambeth, Camden, the O2.
Whoever believes London is flat has no clue. 12% gradients in places. My back was really suffering until we moved my seat up an inch (my seat has always been knowingly low as I did not have the leg strength to go higher) somehow this year my legs have improved. The seat raise made all the difference and I managed to complete the circuit taking 1 hour 15 off last years time.
I really didn't think I was going to make it but with the help and support from husband I did. I was so proud when he said he was so proud of me considering I couldn't even walk 4 months ago. I think that is a memory that will last with me for life.
I did take a photo of me in the last 100 yards of the final hill climb to the finish (husband powered ahead for his impressive final sprint). Unfortunately my selfi photo was too embarrassing to print. Snot, dribble and Alice cooper eye make up is never a good look I find.
Sobbing emotional mess.
This year I did it for Macmillan and husband meningitis. Next mission I will do it for Parkinson's for my Em.
