The three coins tied together with red string are meant to bring good luck and good fortune when you carry them in your purse or wallet.

An old friend met and married a Chinese lady while working there and gave me these many years ago - can't say they've brought me good fortune yet but I haven't got into debt either which in itself is a blessing :)
