Wishy-Washy

After weeks of dry, warm and sunny weather, today’s rain was very welcome. The gales, less so.

It’s a public holiday in Germany, commemorating our country’s reunification in 1990. I didn’t listen to the usual speeches, but visited the gym in the morning, and worked for a few hours in the afternoon.

I don’t feel like celebrating. I remember 1990 as a year full of hope and optimism in both parts of the country. 33 years later, most of the positive energy has vanished, and the far right is threatening to take over in Eastern Germany.
