Little Auk
Our first stop was Runswick Bay as we awoke to a sunny day . We walked along the beach and visited the beach cafe which has changed hands, for a coffee with a view . We noticed small birds as the tide slowly came in ( Spring tides at the moment so very low and very high) . Eventually, with some Googling I found out they were little auks ! I’ve never seen them before - apparently they are frequenters of the East Coast ! Delightful birds very similar to puffins bobbing on the water and using their wings to swim and dive .
Later, we popped to Whitby for an early dinner at the Magpie Cafe and in the estuary there, we spotted lots of them !
We walked out on the jetty after our meal as the sun was setting - the light was beautiful.
