The Great Scottish Run

I am 100% energised and electrified by competitive runs, the bigger and noisier the better. It was a glorious 10k this morning and because I hadn’t trained with any seriousness for once I was relaxed about time/pace and just wanted to enjoy it which I did. Perhaps it was the Lofoten and Arran hills, or the jelly baby at 6k that kicked in but to my astonishment I finished just over a minute longer than last year, and in much better shape.

To celebrate I dropped into Krispy Kreme at Central Station, took ages to choose explaining that I do this once a year. The sales assistant was so surprised that she said since it was such an occasion it was on the house. Actually I think it’s more like every 3 years. It was a strawberry cream one which I ate after a healthy lunch of sour dough topped with a hard boiled egg, (left over from Arran), and mushrooms.

Caught up with the papers, including yesterday’s printed Scotsman with an excellent article by my local SNP MP on the Braverman rhetoric. I subsequently emailed him hoping he can get me a House of Commons tour ticket when I’m in London next month.

What with otters and everything this has been a standout weekend.
