Back to Boddam
This is the old fishing village of Boddam. As is usual in the fishing villages of the NE many of the house are built end on to the sea, thus affording the best shelter to the occupants during winter gales.
It might look like a sleepy place but it has known "interesting" times. For instance, after the Second World War, Boddam became home to RAF Buchan, an important Cold War radar station tracking Russian aircraft over the North Atlantic. Until 2005 this was also home to one of the UK's two "Control and Reporting Centres", which oversaw the UK's air defences.
