Two of the Sculptures
…in Bingen Sculpture Park, on the south bank of the river Rhine. A family tour by car, more photos are shown here. The main photo shows a special sundial, which is working perfectly. The extra shows a rather political statue of the late Grandduke Ludwig IV., V&As son in law as Princess Alice’s husband. Rheinhessen was part of Hesse-Darmstadt until 1945. The martial looking prince was said to be a friendly and not at all war-glorifying. This did not help his statue which was torn down and thrown into the river twice: at the end of both World Wars, and not restored until 2001.
