The shard

Left Bolton this morning and had an easy run: bus on time train ditto and no strikes.  Met a guy on the train who was really interesting.  He had been looking at a geological map of uk etc.  Apparently there is a line running roughly from the Wash to Bristol.  North of this line you get hard rocks like granite etc whereas south of it are soft rocks like limestones.  Thus different opportunities.  Farming v industry etc. Could in part explain the north south divide! Still don’t know what the government are doing about HS2. Our guy reckons they should start north joining up Leeds, Manchester and then Birmingham etc. Sounds good.

Soon arrived at our Premier Inn, not far from the Shard and Borough market.  Went out for a Costa and an amble  along the Thames till we arrived at the Tate Modern and had dinner at Wagamama there.  Leisurely stroll back to the hotel!

Had to include the view of St Paul’s and the Millenium bridge and a graffiti/street art in the back streets!
