Room With A View

The highlight of birthday week - a trip down to Ambleside in the Lake District for a couple of nights. L had hired a more luxurious car for our trip and booked us into a hotel several steps up from our usual level. She had created a playlist to listen to on the way down, one song for each year of my life. Because of the warnings about Storm Agnes which was supposed to hit in the afternoon we left right after breakfast and making good time were there by lunchtime. So early in fact that our room wasn't quite ready so we had tea and scones in the hotel lounge. The room, in the modern extension building, had a balcony and a view of Wansfell (L's knee is still a bit dodgy so we wouldn't have been going up this time, even if the weather was better). We enjoyed the large room chilling out, doing some reading etc before heading back into the main building for our dinner. We had a lovely meal and nice to be able to just walk across the drive to our room afterwards.
