Apparently, 5,000 dahlias have recently been put on display at Stonehenge, paying homage to dahlia shows there from nearly 180 years ago.
In 1842 the Devizes and Wiltshire Gazette wrote "such a scene of gaiety was never before witnessed on Salisbury Plain.... Parties of gentlemen and elegantly dressed ladies were scattered about in all directions." 
Sadly, there were no such scenes in our garden when I took this, merely a sweaty blipper just back from a bike ride.
