Legacy

As I walked from work to Leith I couldn't help but be struck by the number of beautifully designed and historically significant buildings around me. Many built to promote social well being at the turn of the last century - schools, swimming pools, churches.

Indeed, Edinburgh is full of ornate yet robust Victorian school buildings. Often they have intricately designed bell towers - like this one on Bonnington Road, Edinburgh. It is soon to reopen as Edinburgh's first Gaelic medium school.

I know these buildings have draw backs as modern places of education but it is heartening, some how, to see them still being used for their original purpose.....some kind of reassurance from the sense of continuity in a world that has changed so much during that time.
