Very Skookum Benches

Was walking to our very small town centre the other day and passed through this gateway plaza which is being renovated. It is a small rectangular area and the municipality decided to turn it into a meeting place. This bench (top left) is in the largest available area. I wanted the blip it because it is quite unique, but it is not particularly photogenic. The beams are impressive, about one foot square (30cm. X 30cm.) It is actually two identical benches, back to back.

I suspect the beams are repurposed from decommissioned power poles or old wooden bridges.

Note the ‘talking pit’ configuration in the background, and the bench around the tree.

(Bottom left) I was in our sister village across the river yesterday and it turns out that they have already used the same kind of beams for over a dozen of this style of bench in a fairly small irregular shaped plaza.

(Top right) This bench and flower box nearby, overlooks a reach in the river and the island that separates it from the main channel.

(Bottom right) A nicely decorated conventional bench in an open air museum nearby.
