Seized

Started the day with tea and toast looking out over the loch, spotting a group of goldcrests on the seed heads in the garden and wondering if we might see otters and seals along our shore as the tide went out. Brighter than we’d expected (again!) and, after I’d finished and submitted my application, Ky and I went back to Neist Point, this time determined to get the iconic lighthouse view as well as to walk as far as we could towards the lighthouse. Getting to the viewpoint was hairy….tremendous wind roaring off the sea and over the cliffs, with bogs to cross and, at one point, a waterfall being blown back up and over the cliff edge so we got quite wet!
Got the shot, then headed down the long steps and across the flat field before climbing back up the last stretch. We got round to where we could see the lighthouse from the other side of the hill but decided not to go further as the handrail ended and Ky wasn’t finding it easy to stay upright without it!
Just the right amount of jeopardy to give me a buzz and make me giggle, and the wind blew all our cobwebs away and left us both tingling! Great fun.
Good climb back up again…felt like I needed the exercise after a rather laid back week….then we stopped at the little everything shop in Glendale and the Skye Weaver to browse the tweed and chat to the weaver who told us all about how it works as he cycle-powered his loom. Interesting! He was another non-native Skye/Scottish person …like the staff in galleries the other day and the wildlife guide yesterday.
Home for some salad for late lunch then settled down to read Claire Keegan’s So Late in the Day. So poignant and spare….very good.
Messed about with photos with Ky then after supper we watched a DVD …Leave no trace, which was quietly powerful and also rather sad, then packed and had an early night. Home tomorrow!
