Old Stumpy
A year ago this shrub had far outgrown its spot, so the gardeners cut it back savagely, leaving only a forked stump. It looked very dead. But it fought back. At first it produced only a few wisps of leaves but then suddenly it burst out with a dense mass of new greenery. Now it is cautiously trying a few flowers. It’s never going to be pretty, but you have to give it credit for determination. Sadly, if it keeps growing at this rate it will outgrow its spot once more, and the whole cycle will begin again.
