W-I-D-E on Wednesday: The Changing Seasons

Once again our local Rising Sun Country Park provided the subject for my blip today, for Steveng's Widwed challenge of "The Changing Seasons". We had a walk there this morning with our American friends with whom I've been hiking for the lats few days, and as we sat at the cafe having a coffee my Editor suggested that the Conkers* lying beneath the Horse Chestnut tree would make a good blip - showing that we've just moved from summer into autumn. So here's one just out of its shell.

We've just said goodbye to our friends as they're off to stay at the airport tonight prior to their flight home tomorrow. It's been a good week.

* For any non-Brits who may not know this, "Conkers" is a traditional children's game in Great Britain and Ireland played using the seeds of Horse Chestnut trees—the name 'conker' is also applied to the seed and to the tree itself. The game is played by two players, each with a conker threaded onto a piece of string: they take turns striking each other's conker until one breaks.
