Micro Soccer
Micro Soccer is an introductory program for very young children. It was created by Tony Waiters, a former English goaltender, who retired as a very successful coach of the Vancouver Whitecaps, and remained in the area to ‘grow the game’ here.
Originally the game was adapted for 6 and 7 year olds. (Presently, children as young 3 and 4 have a division). The game is played in a 20x30 meter field with a small ball and very small goal. There are three players per team on the field, and no goalie. One coach per team is permitted on the field in order to direct and encourage the players.
When the program first started in our town there were four teams. Today there are at least ten teams.
While I was taking the blip, K. noticed that one of my former players was there with her mom, watching her own daughter play. The program is into its second generation.
