Towards Meall Fell
In inauspicious start to the day with heavy rain early on. We considered altering our plans owing to the weather but decided it was worth taking a chance to go with the original plan to bag 5 Wainwright’s in the northern fells: Braefell, Great Sca Fell, Meall Fell, Great Cockup and Longlands.
My it was a tad windy on the tops even though we were under 2000 feet for the whole walk. When we stood up after a rest at Braefell the wind was intent on blowing us over. And which ever way we took the wind buffeted our faces.
Ultimately is was a great day on the fells with very few people around. As has been the custom, at the end of the walk we repaired to a pub to mark the occasion. This time it was the community pub the Old Crown at Hesketh Market.
What a fine place it is with good local beer. As soon as the doors opened at 5.00 the pub was full of locals. Sir Chris Bonnington is one of the shareholders.
Jane and Adam came over to our place for a meal. Good planning meant that the only things we had to do was prep the veg, heat the chilli through and reheat the jackets.
Todays blip is on the descent from Great Sca Fell towards Meall Fell. The ascent of Great Cockup is in the background .
