Sunset Over The Brisbane River
I had one of those 'feeling low' days today. Then as I was waiting to catch the ferry, a young woman asked me which ferry she needed and we got talking, then sitting together for part of the river journey. She had such positivity and said, "Life is beautiful." Well, I didn't feel that way at all but she began telling me her life story, the difficult childhood she endured in Indonesia and her determination to make her own choices. She ran away from home on the eve of an arranged marriage and managed to get into university, working in hotels and restaurants to pay for the tuition. She met an Australian also studying at Jakarta University. They kept a long-distance relationship going for seven years. Now they are married, live in Brisbane and have two children. She has a job she enjoys in technology. And she says that for her, "Life is beautiful".
The point of me relating this story, is that it reminded me that it's no-one else's responsibility but mine to find good things in each day. I can't quite say that life is 'beautiful' because it's lonely these days, but there are positives if I look for them.
