Lie Back And Think Of The Stars

It was Doors Open weekend in town so I took myself off up to the City Observatory on Calton Hill and this was the position for the observer for making transit observations back in the early 19th century. Transit astronomical observations (marking the time at which celestial objects pass in front or behind other) were used to define and confirm the orbits of planets and such to help build a picture of the solar system.
