Floored!
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been having all the carpets upstairs replaced by a kind of laminate stuff - but good quality that looks and feels like real wood and is very hardwearing.
You may remember that several weeks ago, my husband had a whole room done, following the discovery of a tiny, almost imperceptible bit of water damage in our shower room. He then decided to have all the entire upstairs done, which meant that, as well as all the schoolwork I’ve had to do - and the hedges - I’ve had to clear out the rooms and find space for everything in a tiny house already filled to the rafters with the past thirty years of our lives.
I have to say that it has been quite a painless process. Steve the Builder (as opposed to Steve the Plumber, Steve the Electrician, Steve the Painter and Steve the Gardener) has done an amazing job. Unfortunately, though, he found two rotten floorboards when he took up the carpet in this last room. When he took up the floorboards he found a rather dodgy-looking junction box. The text I got on Friday from my husband implied that all the electrics had to be replaced and the top floor of our house was about to collapse. Not really what I need right now!
By the time I got home from work, my husband, Steve the Builder and Steve the Electrician (who we are now calling ‘Steven’, so as to avoid any confusion) were on the drive talking about cars and everything was fixed.
Phew!
