Here's one I prepared earlier...

A good while ago M and I purchased a standard lamp online.  Apart from the rather dull shade, the rest of it fitted our requirements so we decided to purchase a new shade.  However, we hadn't realised that the shade was an American harp and finial type fitting.  This meant that our traditional British lampshades didn't fit.  You can buy harp lampshades but the choice is limited, expensive and at the time we couldn't find the colour and style we wanted.

So, to cut a long story short, M and I decided to have a go at making a covering for the shade.  We found the fabric in our local sewing shop for a very reasonable price. M and I are very fond of pattern and the gold colour is perfect for our lounge.  We bought some trimmings for the grand price of £1.20 and then watched an instructional video on YouTube.

It was a bit of a messy business as we had to make a paper template, cut out the fabric, iron it and then set up a covered table outside to spray on the glue we'd bought. It isn't completely perfect as sticking the fabric to the shade was a little tricky but all in all we were quite pleased with the result.

I've added extras of the shade in natural light and the original cream shade.

Is there a 'Blue Peter' badge for sewing?
