Lunch

S decided that instead of running today, he would cycle to Lagrasse, so he phoned and booked a table at the Bastion for lunch. It's expensive, so we only go there about once a year, but it's definitely worth it.

This is my starter -- sorry the photo is not great, the table was very small and I'm not one of those annoying Instagrammers who rearrange the furniture and bring their own lights. It was described as a bread and tomato "soup" but was actually more of a paste, with vinegar jelly, burrata, croutons, balsamic glaze, and olive oil sorbet. It was delicious. As was the dessert, a clever "fake fruit": a fig made of white chocolate filled with almond and amaretto mousse and a core of fig compote, with fig sorbet on the side. I was a little less impressed with my main course, rather bland and textureless sea bass -- albeit it looked pretty -- but overall, it was excellent and a bargain compared with somewhere like Putelat's 2-star place (a bit disappointing last time we went in 2021). I don't think it has even one star yet, don't know why.

We spent two hours over lunch, then S cycled back and I drove. Have not done much this afternoon!
