Thanks to mother nature

For this piece of spalted wood which I picked up in a pub car park earlier in the year. Spalting is the colouration and spotting caused by fungi that have colonised the wood and extracted nutrients from it leaving behind this lovely pattern.

Much of the wood in the log was very soft but I managed to get a workable piece from which i turned this oil lamp. It needed some sanding to achieve a decent finish especially on the end grain but we got there.
