Over the stormy sea to Skye!

Don’t believe all you read in my journal! The Club Class on the Highlander last night was far noisier than when I first used the new carriages. The en-suite door rattled all night. The de-privatisation has taken its toll too. All the luxury items have shrunk to an economy class size! The Higlander full breakfast had run out. “ Should have been here at 0600, sir!” To be fair the salmon omelette was very good! And yes, these are indeed all “first world” issues, I know.

Arrival in Fort William was on time. The Jacobite steam train was about to depart. We had breakfast part 2 in the Caledonian Sleeper Lounge and talked with a CNN travel reporter making a documentary with her “permalancer” camera person!

1212 and we were off to Mallaig. Yes. even ScotRail now plays ‘Cheesy Film’ music as we trundle over the iconic concrete viaduct at Glenfinnan!

The ferry to Skye was very choppy but we made it. Sadly on Skye the bus network is worse than useless so we had to take a taxi to Portree for a luxurious stay in a new pod hotel complex hiding in the bracken! The food was excellent.
