Tuesday: Border Crossing

This may not look like much of a crossing but it’s the border between Belize and Guatemala.  This is a bunch of my colleagues surveying said border whilst simultaneously getting eaten alive by mosquitoes.

It’s an interesting area.  Guatemala and Belize have a case in front of the International Court of Justice as Guatemala is claiming 2/3 of Belize’s territory due to some historical border disputes (unsurprisingly caused by the British doing colonial times).  It’s a really porous border with only three stones to mark it so there are lots of incursions across the border as well as frequent poaching.
