red shafts on a gray day

It was a lovely cool morning, signs of autumn in the air, but then it warmed up and got cloudy with spits of rain. I'm glad to have found a bit of color to photograph and to be done with the afternoon walk! 
This is a Northern Red-shafted Flicker, on the east coast they are Yellow-shafted.
