Portofino and Santa Margherita
Today all of us (24) plus the three walk leaders went by coach to Santa Margherita (West of Bonassola), a journey of about 1 1/4 hours. The town is very attractive and obviously prosperous with lovely independent shops. We had coffee and cakes in a kind of Ligurian equivalent of Betty's of Harrogate tea shop. It was opposite a wonderful fresh produce shop (which is my extra today), which had grapes, peaches, wet walnuts, hazel nuts, porcini, and chanterelle mushrooms amongst its extensive displays.
Then we walked up behind Santa Margherita into the Portofino regional park along a balcony path affording us views over the sea and surrounding hills. Then we descended into the town of Portofino. As you can see from the main blip it has many very elegant buildings, housing luxurious hotels and restaurants, while in the harbour were several magnificent yachts. It gave us a flavour of how the mega rich spend their leisure time.
We took a boat back to Santa Margherita and then the coach back to Bonassola.
