Oceanos Lifeboat
This is the white object that was in the distance of my blip yesterday.
It is a lifeboat from the Oceanos cruise ship that sank during a bad storm off the Transkei coast in 1991. All 571 passengers and crew were saved. The cruise entertainers and staff ran the successful rescue of all passengers and crew when the Captain and many officers were the first to leave in the lifeboats.
Sometime later this lifeboat landed up in Gibbons Pool on our East side of the village. It had travelled a distance of some 300 nautical miles! The Later a storm and high seas washed it out of the pool onto the rocks and marshy area. It had been completely hidden by reeds until the weekend storm which flattened the reed beds. It's amazing to see that it is still fairly intact - most people thought it had disintegrated.
It has been a beautiful sunny, wind free day today. I played good golf which always lifts my mood!!
