Waiting for Thursday

A pretty miserable day - dull and wet and cold. A great day for sorting photos, reading and starting a new jigsaw.

Booker 2023
I have now read 11 out of the 13 books on the Booker 2023 Longlist. I gave up with one and don’t feel inclined to try the other. So that is it.  I am glad I tackled the list because, as always, I find books that I would never have come across otherwise and it has been good fun knowing that there are others (as mad as me!) who are reading the same books, there have been some great online discussions. It has been a strange list. Right from the start it caused a fair bit of a stir, more for what the judges had missed off than for what they had included. Now it is very interesting as everyone has their own favourites . . . and they are all different.

Anyway I have made a list and this is it. It is definitely not a prediction list as I have no idea what the judges will choose, some of the choices for the longlist were quite bizarre. I have just put together the ones I have enjoyed most and which I think are the best crafted, deal with important human issues and show good storytelling. The shortlist will be announced on Thursday - it will be interesting!

I will say a bit more about the books on the short list when it is announced and maybe recommend some.
