Friendships

Yesterday was the last day of a 3 day golf weekend, and my clubs are now safely back in a garage where they will stay till next September.

It's a silly game that takes up too much time, time I don't have.

But this post isn't about that, it's about friendships.

Most of the guys in this pic I have known for 35 years or more. 4 I'd known since Friday as friends of friends joined in to make the numbers work.

One I have known all my life, another since I was 16. 2 other guys, and their sons who are also in the picture, I've know either all my life or all of  theirs. I probably became friends with them in my mid teens through a youth group at local church. Those connections have been constant in my life.

We've golfed, we've walked, we've acted and we've played in bands together, they also footballed (I didn't) but we've always socialised, enjoyed the pub and a laugh together.

As we all get older, it gets more important and more necessary to do this. Some of us wont be able to do this in 20 years, so we've already booked it for next year. There's 5 retirees here, there will quickly be more as the years gather pace. One thing is certain, the standard of golf will only get worse.

It was never about the golf though.
