A good day

The morning was calm and there was a lovely sunrise but threatening clouds hovered in the blue sky.  I took a chance and hung some washing on the line to dry.  The wind picked up quite quickly, but the washing survived.

We had a lovely surprise visit from our Blipper friend Mima and her delightful dog Bean late morning.  Mima brought a gift with her - a cutting from a plant we sent her from Auckland a year ago.  It’s now sitting in the greenhouse and will, hopefully, do well there.  We had coffee and a biscuit and lots of chat - a very pleasant interlude.  Afterwards we went to Mitre10 to collect the two flat pack cupboards for the laundry/utility room.  MrMacD went to buy them yesterday but they were hiding behind some loaded pallets and they couldn’t get them out.  We went to talk to the paint lady, who was very helpful.  She said that chalk paint is really easy and great fun to paint with and if it’s waxed it will be very hard wearing.  She encouraged me to try it and even told me how to make my own.  We bought undercoat, brushes and a roller, then went to Resene to buy the colour we wanted - Matisse Blue.  They didn’t have the “mixer” required to make it, so that will be ordered today and should arrive tomorrow.

We had a quick lunch of apples and cheese, then MrMacD started assembling the cupboards and I filled some cracks in the piece I’m working on, then hand sanded its glass door.  Late afternoon we were visited by the tiler from the tile shop we were so impressed with last week.  He took the necessary measurements, gave us some advice and got quite excited about the prospect of perhaps doing a feature wall in tiles for us.  He will come back to us with the necessary quotes. I managed to do the ironing that’s been hanging around for days and MrMacD finished assembling the two cupboards.  He just has to fix them to the wall tomorrow and they’ll be ready for use.  A good job done.
