By this time we had acquired an exalted, but injured, companion who earlier this year had run the Marathon des Sables.  Ooh yes - took 7 hours 34 minutes, (not the three days that you might assume from the blipfoto dates!).  Some runners told me that they took at least an hour longer then they expected, because of the heat.
