Almost Grown

Immature Milkweed Bugs. By the size of their wings, those black spots on their sides, these young milkweed bugs are close to becoming adults. The  metamorphosis from egg to adult takes from 4-8 weeks. Their bodies contain toxic compounds from the sap they suck from the milkweed so would be predators know its best to leave them alone. Milkweed bugs do little damage to the plant and are only around for a short period of time. Insecticidal soaps can be used to control them but I just leave 'mine' in peace.
