armchair travellers

These are the books D has been buying and reading this month. I am reading "Savage Summit" by Jennifer Jordan which is about "the life and death of the first women of K2". I have actually seen K2, in the distance, when we were in Pakistan many years ago, but I have no desire to climb it..

Today I have travelled virtually over the South Downs. The route for next week's walk has just been released, so I spent a long time on the OS website, importing the route and then printing bits of it off. It all looks very well organised - there are seven checkpoints and we have a grid reference and what3words for each, as well as a menu of the food which will be available at each one! I have made myself a schedule and now just have to think about what to wear and take. The weather forecast was looking pretty dire, but is improving every time I look, so here's hoping for more dry than wet, and no strong winds..I discovered a cool feature on the OS site called "3D Flythrough" where you can see your whole route on a satellite view as though you were flying over it.

I had two realwalks today, one with Jess and one without, and noticed scores of swallows and martins flying over the field - I expect they are gorging on flies to fuel up for their Big Flight.
