Very stressful day!!!
After trying all yesterday evening to check in, but being told that ‘We are required by certain countries to check your travel documents before flying’, we found out that it was all hogwash. We had, in fact, been BUMPED from the flight!!! Actually, just JR - I still had a seat (in Premium Economy- we’d splashed out).
We flew down to London in a state of some distress. Some officials (and Trailfinders) were upbeat, saying 95% of people bumped off, actually get on. But the woman in London was doubtful…
However, we got to the gate early, and asked the person at the desk, she gave no indication of chances of success. Once people started to board and our panic was off the scale - Should I go on my own? Should we both stay? What about hotel bookings etc? Where is our luggage? - she came over and handed JR her pass. YESSSS! Premium Economy too!!! (She had been prepared to accept Economy).
The kind women beside both of us suggested we change seats, not that that mattered too much by then. We were ON.
But why would BA bump ONE person when we’d booked as a pair? NOT happy with BA. How do they choose the people to bump off? Ian Rankin, a famous author, was bumped off BUSINESS CLASS recently and made a fuss in the press. And I’m kind of making a fuss in the ‘press’…
But one bright spot of the day. JR got her new vari-focal specs in time for her holiday- she went away to the out of town shopping centre on the tram in the morning. They’re pretty groovy, with sparkles on the sides.
