In the garden

A day of catching up on household stuff, with interludes of time in the garden.
A steep, roughly terraced bank occupies the back part of our garden's lefthand side.  This is made up of rubble from the 2 or 3 very small  houses that were demolished in the 1970s, eventually making way for the 1990s house we live in.  There's a fairly thin layer of topsoil on this bank, which I add to each year with some compost.  Anyway, in this fairly challenging environment, some plants take a long time to push their roots down through the stony depths and into something more nourishing.  Once they get established though, there's no stopping them. You can't see the rest of this passionflower here, but it's rampaging across the bank at the moment, twining itself around all its neighbours.
