Sandbar?

Well, it used to be! And before that, it was water! 

When we were young, we were actually an island and you could drive a boat through there..but over the years, as the water levels changed, so did the little channel..it came and went and eventually became a sandbar.. and then some trees grew..the beavers loved that - very tasty saplings - now they have died, (the trees, not the beavers) but the grasses have thrived..At present, we have our own little wetland...and it is frequented regularly by the heron, the ducks, geese and gulls and, of course, the beavers..

It is interesting to see how it still changes with high water levels and low..We are officially still an island, but we are connected at times, like now,  with Parry Island which is the reserve of the Wasauksing First Nation and, as such, we have been included in a native land claim that has been ongoing since 1981. So, water levels have and still play a significant role in the history of our island, especially the water level at the time the Robinson-Huron Treaty of 1850 was signed! 

Backblip: I am currently sitting at home sipping my morning coffee with my cat Maggie and cottage life already seems a lifetime away! Those last two days getting ready to leave for the season meant that not many photos were taken...but I took this one as I have seldom posted anything about that key area of our island and this was my last chance...
