Matthew Halsall @ Metronome in Nottingham
My jazz mate n I agreed that Metronome seems to have the best sound of any venue we've been to. MH commented on it on his first visit here & this venue really suits this band. The second gig at Union Chapel (London) gig was underwhelming; this was special.
A bit more freeform tonight, I guess because he had the band members and guest (Chip Wickham - flute, clarinet, sitting in main) to showcase their talents. The drummer and keyboardist stood out too, the latter adding a touch of acid jazz, a hint of trance, the former a hint of drum n bass artist LJT Bukem.
Eight on stage (including guest) at one stage.
The King
had an adverse reaction to his tenth or so (I'm told) platelets transfusion, but is currently back home. Fingers crossed his platelet level can recover sufficiently quickly to not hinder his next chemo too long. Seems more likely to be this Thursday, than the hoped for Monday now.
