Hand Fasting

We were invited to attend some (past guests) great friend's "Hand Fasting" ceremony at Gretna Green today. It was Liz & Al's 10th Wedding Anniversary, and to celebrate they were having a hand fasting ceremony - I'd never seen one before, but found it fascinating. The tartan tie is wound around each of their hands, and at the end of the ceremony, they hold the ends, pull their hands apart and "tie the knot" in the middle of the tie. Which is where the saying comes from.

After the ceremony itself, which took place in the main Blacksmith's shop at Gretna; we were treated to a wonderful afternoon tea.

Congratulations Liz & Al - you both looked splendid, and it was such a special occasion to have been invited to witness.
