1624 ..
... is the date on the Snuffmill Bridge over the River Cart in Old Cathcart. This is probably from an older bridge with this one dating from the early 18th century.
Also in the photo is Lindsay Tenement built in 1863 by John Baird II for David Lindsay who lived in the cottage opposite (where the white mill house (1905) now is). The ground floor with a separate entrance on the right gable was to be his marital home but he never did marry!
The small building at the bridge has been various types of mill since the early 18th century from meal to snuff and paper. Now converted to housing. The mill was run by the Lindsay family.
This was part of the Old Cathcart heritage trail which I was on today organise by the Glasgow Doors Open Days
The extra shows some more stops on the walk.
Holmwood House by Alexander Thomson for the Couper family. Another mill owner in the area.

Court Knowe where Mary Queen of Scots is reputed to have watched the Battle of Langside in 1568
