The London Road Clock

The old clock is now back in it’s new location, in fact it has been there for a while but it and the majority of Elm Row has had the fencing removed so the area is now a pedestrian space which great. The only issue is that the plan is for vehicular access but given there are no kerbs or marked parking spaces I reckon mayhem may ensue. I wonder if the council are not finishing the area completely to see if the pedestrian only access should continue, I hope so. The clock has had an interesting history being originally located on Waverley Bridge in 1857 then moving to the West End in 1896 and then to the old roundabout at the top of London Rd from 1955 to 2007 when it was removed during the original new tram workings. In the interim the clock has been restored and refurbished to its original Victorian status.

The extra is the ‘Leith Walk Pigeons’ back on a raised plinth so that you have to really try to trip over them, though I’m not sure why one has been placed outwith the group on the other side of the area.
