Ragged Cliffs
Up early today to get things ready for a weekend of wildlife photography. Needed to be at Dunbar harbour for 12.30 to get the boat over the Bass rock.
The trip was organised by Photographers on Safari. We had John the photographer and Maggie from the Scottish Seabird Centre. Nice easy calm trip over to the rock and then all hell broke loose.
To get to the top of the rock you have to navigate through the Gannets, which are nesting right by the side of the path and have a go at you each time you walk by
Before getting on the island the fishing boat chummed the waters for the Gannets to come in and feed. 600 photos and 15 minutes later it was all over. Great sight to see but difficult to photograph with so many Gannets hitting the water.
On the Rock was no different. They are everywhere and flying all around.
We have 4 hours on the rock to take as many as we could. Landing is not their speciality. They more like crash land than come in with any control.
The weather turned at the end of the day and we were glad we left when we did as it was a wet run back.
This weeks challenge theme is RAGGED, so before leaving I took this shot of the ragged cliffs of Bass rock with its thousands of gannets flying overhead. This is also and early banker for the monthly theme of Black & White.
